RECOMMENDED BOOKS: The Autobiography of Malcolm X: As Told to Alex Haley

“Extraordinary. A brilliant, painful, important book.” THE NEW YORK TIMES

“The most important book I’ll ever read. It changed the way I thought; it changed the way I acted. It has given me courage that I didn’t know I had inside me. I’m one of hundreds of thousands whose life was changed for the better.” SPIKE LEE

“I embraced Islam basically after reading The Autobiography of Malcolm X, which gave me a different perspective on monotheism and the history of religions.” NBA legend KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR

“People don’t realize how a man’s whole life can be changed by one book.” Malcolm X

I recommend this powerful book to anyone who missed out on this great historical figure. Also to everyone who knows a little to a great deal about Malcolm X. This book gives you the unpolished, uncensored and uncompromised truth about Malcolm X, as he himself told to Afro-American journalist and celebrated writer Alex Haley. But above all I recommend this book to all black males. I guarantee you that, this searing memoir will turn black males who prefer to be boys forever into a grown man instantly. This important autobiography about one of the most influential African American was like an addiction when I read it. From the very first page to the last it captured my whole being. It took away any doubt, if there were ever any, that Malcolm X was in fact a godsend to articulate and stand up against the injustice the African American people were put through by white America. All the difficult paths he walked in his early lifetime set the stage for him to take on this duty. Malcolm X aka El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz was a great man whose honest view on the American society got him a great deal of trouble in his adult life, in a time when America was not able or unwilling to self reflect. Malcolm X died on February 21st 1965. He was assassinated infront of his wife and children while giving a speech in Manhattan’s Audubon Ballroom. The best description I could give of Malcolm X’s life journey is the following quote by American 16th President Abraham Lincoln:

“I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.”

I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true (the debate of American racist society).
I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have (his honesty & the true Islam religion). I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong (Elijah Mohammad & America).

This black leader, this black shining prince, this man is no longer in our midst, but he surely will not be forgotten. I recommend this book to all. Read! Read! Read!
