AMBER ALERT: Amelia ‘Milly’ Boele (1997-2010)

Amelia ‘Milly’ Boele is a 12 year old Dutch girl from Dordrecht who went missing on Wednesday, March 10th 2010. On the day she went missing, around 17:30 pm, she spoke shortly with her mother on the phone. She supposedly told her mother who was on the other side of the phone “Can you call me back on my mobile? There’s a man at the door”. These words will now play over and over in her mother’s head as it turns out to be Milly’s last words. Ever since the news broke out I have followed the case narrowly and was trying to form an opinion about it. These things always leave me speechless.
This morning I woke up to the devastating news that the body of Milly has been recovered. She was buried in the garden of a neighbour two doors away. It has been confirmed that her murderer is a 26 year old police man called Sander V. He was arrested at the police station after he turned himself in and reported the crime he has committed. A press conference will be held later this afternoon, releasing more information about the case.

The AMBER Alert System began in 1996. AMBER stands for America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response and it is in memory of the 9-year-old Amber Hagerman from the Arlington Texas, who was kidnapped and brutally murdered. The goal of an AMBER Alert is to mobilize an entire community to assist in the search for and the safe recovery of a missing child. The AMBER Alert will be issued in the first hours when a child is reported missing, if the authority fears for the life or well being of the child. As for the 12 year old Milly Boele, it took the local authority 24 hours before the AMBER Alert was activated. Some experts argue rightfully that the AMBER Alert was issued too late in this case.

My condolences goes out to the family, friends and her school mates. It is a shocking event and I know it will change some of your lives. I hope you all find the strength to deal with this great loss and overcome the painful revelations that lie ahead. The Soul Rebel Movement mourns with you all. Keep your head up.
